Gregory Vistnes

Dr. Vistnes is not only frequently retained by private parties to present his analyses to the US Department of Justice (DOJ) or the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC), he has also been retained by the DOJ to serve as their expert witness in antitrust litigation. In addition to appearing before, and on behalf of, the federal antitrust agencies, Dr. Vistnes has testified in numerous matters on the behalf of private parties.

Over the course of his career, Dr. Vistnes has analyzed competition in a broad array of industries, including healthcare, pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, financial services, real estate services, software products, aerospace and defense products, oil and energy-related products and services, and various retail and industrial products. These analyses included the likely competitive effects of mergers and acquisitions; the likelihood of economic effects associated with monopolization claims involving conduct such as tying, bundling, or exclusive contracting; and issues relating to price-fixing and collusion.

Prior to joining Charles River Associates, he served as the deputy director for antitrust in the FTC’s Bureau of Economics where he was responsible for the economic analysis of all antitrust matters before the Commission and where he supervised the FTC’s staff of more than 40 PhD-level antitrust economists. Dr. Vistnes has also served as an assistant chief in the Economic Analysis Group of the DOJ’s Antitrust Division.
